The following micro roasters have been part of developing the 2019 Coffee Advent Calendar, and they are all participating with three great coffee's each. Feel free to go to each micro roasters website to read more about their coffee roasting philisophy, and to buy their amazing coffee, of course:
Archipelago Coffee is a project from Muttley & Jack’s - an award winning micro-roastery on the island of Rindö in the heart of the Stockholm archipelago. The roastery focuses on organically grown speciality grade seasonal coffees, fully traceable to the individual farm and sourced fairly via direct trade with the producers. Archipelago Coffee takes inspiration from Swedish nature and roasts classic Nordic blends for enjoying every day. The logo with its three waves reflects both the waters of the archipelago as well as the so called ‘third wave of coffee’ – a movement which considers coffee to be an artisanal food, like wine, rather than a commodity to be exploited.
Budhas Kafferosteri is located in the town Lycksele in Lapland and is Sweden's northernmost specialty coffee roastery. Budha Sutedja is born and raised in Indonesia and has genuine passion for high quality coffee. He wants to spread knowledge and give his customers a very special experience of a really good cup of coffee.
In one part of the roastery lies their coffee shop, which was awarded “best coffee shop in Sweden” in 2017 by White Guide: "they combine deep knowledge of refining the best raw material with a treating each guest as if it were a friend". Here, coffee is served in all kinds of brewing techniques and you can of course buy your favorite beans to take home.
Gamla Snickeriet Kafferosteri was founded in the spring of 2019 by Joachim Segerstedt, who has worked with coffee for many years. He has, among other things, run the coffee shop Mogen & Grus at Södermalm in Stockholm. In spring 2018 he moved from Stockholm to Säter to start a family and start to roast coffee. He strives to highlight the best of each coffee bean, which for Joachim means a coffee without bitter or burnt notes.
Much of the coffee he roasts is sold under the Mogen Coffee brand (which was included in the calendar 2018). But he has also developed a range of coffee that are mainly sold locally, which match in both taste and price. The ambition is to provide Dalarna with traceable and freshly roasted craft coffee.
Gute Rosteri is a coffee roastery from Gotland with a focus on quality. It was founded in 2016 by Jelle Van Echelpoel who, among other things, is a Swedish Champion of coffee art. They only roast with organic certified coffee.
Gute Rosteri works with coffee from all over the world, and their assortment is constantly changing because they are always looking for new and exciting flavor profiles. When looking for new origins, they always value social relationships and that the coffee is grown with ecologically sustainable methods, as they are convinced that this results in higher quality.
Gute Rosteri is located ten kilometers east of Visby at Stafva Gård in Barlingbo.
At the foot of Vista Kulle, just north of Jönköping, you will find Gårdsrosteriet, started in 2011. With magnificent views of the fruit farms and the sea Vättern, the Germany-born Ingo Deters have been roasting specialty coffee for hotels, restaurants and cafés in the area. Already at the age of 19, Ingo opened his first coffee shop in Düsseldorf and he has continued in the coffee business.
Gårdsrosteriet aim to give you the taste experience you deserve, whether you are a dedicated connoisseur, or simply just like coffee. If you are visiting you can also buy both coffee and other goodies in the farm shop that the roastery shares with the fruit farm.
Rosteriet Vadstena started in late summer 2015, their philosophy is based on interaction between the bean, grower and roaster. Quality-focused coffee is a coffee that is traceable from cup to plant. Thus, it is easy to continue where the job of the farmer ends, and refine the bean with gentle roasting and care for the inherent character of the raw coffee. Their production is small-scale and every step of the process is done by hand.
Rosteriet Vadstena is centrally located in beautiful Vadstena. In the same place as the roastery, they have also opened a café where, in addition to coffee, they sell food from other small-scale local actors.
Sandby Kafferosteri was founded in 2011 by Mattias Sjöbäck, and has grown steadily and organically since then. For Mattias, the origin of the coffee is central, which country, region, village and farm the coffee comes from. How the coffee workers live there, and under what conditions it is grown. Sandby Kafferosteri buys raw coffee that has distinct flavor profiles, so that these will give the end products clear characters.
The task of the roast master is to find and highlight the flavors that already exist, something that Mattias loves to do.
Slöinge Kafferosteri started in 2013 and is a micro roastery that only roasts specialty coffee. They are located in the old hotel in Slöinge. Almost all of their coffee is organically grown and procured with as few intermediaries as possible. Many of the varieties also come from only one farm, so-called Single Estate. The other coffee is called Single Origin, which means that it comes from different farms within the same region.
All coffee is gently roasted by hand in small batches in a Diedrich IR-12. The coffee is roasted until the complex acids and sugar are highlighted.
