Balck Coffee is a micro roastery located in Kalmar on the Swedish east coast. Here they have been operating their roastery since 2015. They source their coffee beans from individual farmers or cooperatives, without using any middlemen, and the relationship is built on; transparency, sustainability, and quality.
For example, they regularly visit the coffee farmers on their farms to jointly develop the farming methods, post-harvest process, and overall quality. By paying several times more than the commodity market price, they also enable economically and socially sustainable coffee production.
The coffee is then roasted carefully to develop its natural taste profile.
Blekinge Specialty Coffee roast quality coffee from all over the world and choose the best beans that are roasted gently. Their pursuit of good taste, high quality, environmental awareness and fair conditions permeates the entire business. The coffee is served at various restaurants and cafes in the local area, and they of course also sell the coffee in their own shop in Mörrum, in the south of Sweden, as well as in their web shop.
The founder Henrik Arvidsson is the Swedish Champion of Coffee Roasting 2017 and came in 4th place out of 21 in the World Coffee Roasting Championship 2017.
Budhas Kafferosteri is located in the town Lycksele in Lapland and is Sweden's northernmost specialty coffee roastery. Budha Sutedja is born and raised in Indonesia and has genuine passion for high quality coffee. He wants to spread knowledge and give his customers a very special experience of a really good cup of coffee.
In one part of the roastery lies their coffee shop, which was awarded “best coffee shop in Sweden” in 2017 by White Guide: "they combine deep knowledge of refining the best raw material with a treating each guest as if it were a friend". Here, coffee is served in all kinds of brewing techniques and you can of course buy your favorite beans to take home.
CozoCoffee, from Örebro, was founded by Oskar Cedermalm after he for many years had toured around the world with his band Truckfighters and always had trouble finding really good coffee. That´s when the idea of getting involved in the coffee industry, by starting to roast coffee, slowly took form.
The philosophy is simple: to buy the best coffee beans, sometimes directly from individual farmers or cooperatives, but also from big importers. What they all have in common is that the green bean need to be of the absolute best quality. For Oskar it is also important to work with people who share the same values as him regarding human and environmental ethics.
Mikael Meltzer’s technical studies required long hours into the nights and great focus. During the study period, love for really good coffee grew. The coffee turned out to be the best thing during the school years.
Creating a good coffee is both an art form and a complicated technical process that covers all branches of science. With a foundation in technical education, Mikael Meltzer creates fantastic coffee. But it’s not just roasting that matters.
The origin of the beans is also very important. Keeping track of the beans and treating them accordingly is extremely important. Meltzers Kafferosteri is in total control over all the details, so you can focus on the experience.
Qvarsebo Kaffe was formed in the spring of 2016 by Patric and Angelica, who after have been trained in coffee roasting on site in Peru brought their knowledge home, and now spreads their love for specialty coffee at home.
As the name suggests, this micro-roastery is located in the small village of Kvarsebo, about four miles outside Norrköping. In their combined café and roastery, they focus on having as much locally produced and organic as possible. They work closely with their raw coffee suppliers to ensure that the working conditions are good for those who work with the beans at all levels.
They gently roast their coffee to bring out the unique flavors and characters that each coffee bean possesses.
The Broker Coffee Roastery & Coffee Bar is Uppsala’s only combined coffee roastery and coffee bar, based on the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences’ campus in central Ultuna.
They are a specialty coffee roastery that started in 2014; where the goal is for the slowly roasted, traceable coffee to do justice to the passion and hard work that has been put in by everyone in the coffee chain - from coffee farmer to importer to roaster.
They want to share this passion in a way that allows both coffee novices and coffee enthusiasts to appreciate the taste of the carefully treated coffee on their terms.
Törnlind's Kafferosteri was founded in 2018 by Tobias and Anna Törnlind. They want to share their passion for coffee at the same time as they want to change the coffee industry for the better. Therefore, the choice to only roast specialty coffee was simple, as it means that quality, sustainability and ethics is key parts in a transparent process and where growers get better paid.
