Why use gold plating in coffee filters?
Because gold does not react with coffee in the same way as paper filters can do. (Paper filters can leave a paper taste on the coffee. Try brewing with just paper filters and taste the water - it tastes like paper.)
The coffee filter may allow some sediment to pass through; tips to minimize this include spreading the ground coffee evenly before brewing.
